10.12.83 Official Journal of the European Communities No C 334/15
Amendment to the proposal for a Council Directive concerning airborne noise emitted by
household appliances (')
COM(83) 694 final
(Submitted by the Commission to the Council pursuant to Article 149 (2) of the EEC Treaty
on 23 November 1983)
Preamble and recitals 1 to 5 unchanged.
Add a new recital 6 reading as follows:
'Whereas the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) has adopted a test
code for the determination of airborne acoustical noise emitted by household and
similar electrical appliances, published in IEC Publication 704-1, 1982, First Edition,
and the European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization (Cenelec) has
endorsed this publication in Harmonization Document H D 432-1; whereas it is
therefore appropriate that the Community should adopt solutions which have
already been approved on a very wide scale at international level;'.
Present recital 6 becomes number 7.
Articles 1 to 6 unchanged.
Article 7 (2) is deleted, and the present Article 7(1) becomes whole Article 7.
Articles 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 and 13 unchanged.
Annex I: the entire Annex is replaced by the following:
The noise levels of each family of household appliance shall be determined in accordance with
the methods defined in IEC Publication 704-1, 1982, First Edition, of the International
Electrotechnical Commission, which has been endorsed by the European Committee for
Electrotechnical Standardization (Cenelec) in Harmonization Document HD 423-1. The
values obtained in this way constitute the basic data for checking the accuracy of their noise
emission with the declared values. Unless otherwise indicated, these values are inclusive of
tolerances. This test code is applicable unless separate Directives lay down different or sup-
plementary provisions taking into account the special characteristics of certain types of
household appliances.'
Annex II unchanged.
