SUBJECT MATTER OF THE CASE
The application concerns the applicant’s right to freedom of expression. On 27 October 2007 he showed up at a pro-incumbency rally and unfurled a banner that read “Putin better than Hitler”. The police removed him from the meeting and a judge fined him for “a breach of the established order for conducting meetings that resulted in a threat to public security”. A detailed statement of facts is available in the case of the applicant’s co-defendant Mr Batenev (no. 14620/08).
