No 950/68 in respect of the tariff treatment applicable to goods contained in travellers'

THE COUNCIL OF THE EUROPEAN
COMMUNITIES,
Having regard to the Treaty establishing the
European Economic Community, and in particular
Articles 28, 43 and 235 thereof,
Having regard to the proposal from the Commission,
Having regard to the opinion of the European
Parliament,
Having regard to the opinion of the Economic and
Social Committee,
Whereas Council Regulation (EEC) No 918/83 of 28
March 1983 setting up a Community system of reliefs
from customs duty (') lays down a number of ceilings,
expressed in ECU, up to which the goods in question
may be imported free of customs duty;
Whereas the provisions of the said Regulation
relating to the tariff treatment applicable to the goods
contained in travellers' personal luggage or sent in
small consignments to private individuals result from
consolidation of the Regulations previously adopted
by the Council concerning duty-free entry; whereas,
in the course of that consolidation, the ceilings from
the Regulations in question were incorporated
without change into the abovementioned Regulation
(EEC) No 918/83; whereas the ceilings in question
have therefore not been adjusted since 1981;
Whereas it is appropriate to increase the ceilings in
question,
HAS ADOPTED THIS REGULATION:
Article 1
Regulation (EEC) No 918/83 is hereby amended as
follows:
— in the third indent of Article 29 (2), '35 ECU' is
replaced by '45 ECU';
— in Article 47, '45 ECU' and '23 ECU' are replaced
by '60 ECU' and '30 ECU' respectively.
Article 2
In Section IIC (1), (5) and (6) of the preliminary
provisions of the Common Customs Tariff annexed
to Regulation (EEC) No 950/68, '115 ECU' is
replaced by'150 ECU'.
Article 3
This Regulation shall enter into force on 1 January
1985.
